Ancient Legends and Stories
Vellimalai Murugan Temple (Meghamalai): Situated amidst tea plantations, this temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the God of War. Legend has it that Lord Murugan chose this hill for his abode, and his presence is said to bless the land with fertility and prosperity.
Kamatchi Amman Temple (Theni): Dedicated to the goddess Kamatchi, this temple is said to protect the villagers from evil forces. The story goes that the goddess once appeared to a devotee here, blessing him with divine sight.
Kuchanur Saneeswara Bhagavan Temple (Theni): Unique for being dedicated to Saturn (Shani), this temple is believed to remove the malefic effects of Saturn from devotees’ lives. Locals believe that visiting the temple can cure ailments and bring prosperity.
Chinnakanal Sivan Temple (Munnar): A peaceful temple surrounded by lush greenery, this ancient Shiva temple is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas, who sought Lord Shiva’s blessings during their exile.
Mythical Significance
Sabarimala Pilgrimage: While not on the direct route from Theni to Munnar, the famous Sabarimala temple in Kerala is a significant pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. Legends suggest that Lord Ayyappa meditated here after his victory over the demoness Mahishi, making it a place of divine blessing.
Mariamman Temple at Devikulam (Munnar): Known for its connection to the legend of the Goddess Mariamman, who protected the people from plagues, this temple holds a special place in the hearts of locals.
